Psychometrics - the science of mind reading.

Sometimes we want to measure things that we can’t observe directly, such as intelligence, personality, political attitudes, brand loyalty or quality of life. Psychometrics is the science of measuring these unobservable, latent, variables through statistical modelling. It is the engine that drives person-centred measurement in business, education and healthcare.

In this intensive four-day course, we cover the fundamentals of modern psychometric theory and the practical application of these techniques in R. The course is intended for those involved in the development and analysis of questionnaires and educational assessments.

Psychometrics in R

Assuming no prior knowledge, we cover:

  • Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis

  • Structural equation modelling

  • Rasch measurement theory and item response theory

  • Computerised adaptive test simulation and development

Using a recurrent example, we illustrate the development of a hypothetical assessment with principles that are directly applicable to healthcare, business and education.

The course is taught online via videoconference and requires a very basic command of R and R Studio. If you are completely new to using R for statistical analysis, we would strongly recommend taking our Introduction to R course first.
